Jakarta, 3 March 2023 – Bank OCBC NISP's Sharia Business Unit (UUS) continues its routine agenda of distributing social funds through AMAL activity in Padang, together with Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (BAZNAS). In this activity, held on 26 February, Bank OCBC NISP symbolically handed over a donation in the form of stationery to support orphans' and underprivileged people's school activities in Padang. The event is part of AMAL, a campaign and charitable initiative initiated by the Shariah Division of Bank OCBC NISP in the spirit of promoting kindness and virtue in the society and to help the needy.
Mahendra Koesumawardhana, Division Head Unit Usaha Syariah Bank OCBC NISP said, “AMAL activity is a new concept owned by UUS to distribute the social funds in a more structured and impactful way. The AMAL event in Padang is a part of our series of activities that we will carry throughout 2023. We are planning to carry out at least 12 AMAL activities, that would also be followed by an on-the-spot activity together with the local community in every city that we visited.”
This activity was organized by UUS and BAZNAS, a zakat distribution institution that has partnered with Bank OCBC NISP, together with Sinar Pagi Sport Community (SPSC), a sports community whose members are entrepreneurs in the city of Padang. In addition, a jogging activity will be held together with the SPSC community to build a good relationship with the local community.

AMAL by OCBC NISP Syariah was first launched in 2022, during the 13th anniversary of UUS, by distributing relief packages of basic food items and stationery in 10 cities in Indonesia, including Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Palembang, Pontianak, Makassar and others. Since then, the campaign has helped up to 1,300 people in 10 cities and will continue to reach more people in need in more areas of Indonesia.
"We are planning to organize AMAL events on a regular basis in the future in order to realize the value of our foundation, which is to help each other to improve the quality of life of these unfortunate and orphaned children,” Mahendra Koesumawardhana concluded.
AMAL from OCBC NISP has a philosophy as the foundation of its every activity, namely Amanah, Muamalah, Akhlak, and Lillahi Ta'ala. Amanah shows that this program aims to convey the spirit of 'trustworthiness' of OCBC NISP Sharia Business Unit and partners as institutions that collect and distribute funds with integrity. Muamalah is the spirit of building relationships between people to help each other to create a harmonious society, which is also accompanied by Akhlak because this program also aims to promotote morality and nobility. Most importantly, AMAL activity is based on Lillahi Ta'ala, which encourages people to do all forms of charity based on sincerity because of Allah SWT.
