Jakarta, July 30th, 2020 – COVID-19 pandemic has transformed the way people live all around the world, including Indonesian. Mobility of business players is still limited due to health protocols implementation. It affects the national economic growth during 2nd quarter of 2020, which is estimated to experience contraction.

"Bank OCBC NISP continues to strive in providing the best support for our customers and people during the pandemic, by strengthening the Bank's financial position, maintaining capital adequacy, availability of financing and liquidity with highest priority on the importance of the health and safety of all stakeholders. The various initiatives we provide to support our individual and corporate customers have provided positive drive and we continue responding to customers’ needs, #MoveForward to drive Indonesian economy together,” said Parwati Surjaudaja, President Director of Bank OCBC NISP.

With strategies that focus on increasing CASA, productivity, efficiency, and consistency in maintaining credit quality, Bank OCBC NISP was continuing its sustainable growth during the 2nd quarter of 2020. In first semester of 2020, Bank OCBC NISP recorded Rp1.6 Trillion of net profit, increased from Rp1.5 Trillion in first semester of 2019. Profit before tax increased 3% YoY to Rp2.1 Trillion. The initiatives in increasing non-interest income has translated into growth in other operational income to Rp1.2 Trillion in first semester of 2020, increased 24% from Rp1 Trillion in first semester of 2019. This growth was supported by the increase in foreign exchange transactions and marketable securities.

"Increase in other operating income was in line with Bank OCBC NISP's consistency in encouraging customers to utilize our digital banking solutions. The ease and convenient offered amidst limited mobility have led growth in Bank OCBC NISP’s e-channels, from number of users, frequency and value of transactions. Overall, the transaction value of Bank OCBC NISP’s e-channels has grown by 69% YoY until June 2020. The total of internet banking users and ONe Mobile – Bank OCBC NISP’s mobile banking – grew by more than 45% YoY, respectively. The value of transaction at ONe Mobile has also doubled, while frequency rose by 69%," said Parwati.

Bank OCBC NISP’s Commitment in Running It’s Intermediation Function

Through various changes and business operational adjustment, Bank OCBC NISP continuously runs its intermediation function. At the end of June 2020, Bank OCBC NISP raised Deposits of Rp135.3 Trillion, grew 4% from Rp130.4 Trillion at the end of June 2019. As per June 2020, Bank OCBC NISP’s CASA also increased 21% YoY, as such CASA ratio stood at 43.8% of Total Deposits. The increase in CASA was driven by a downward trend in public consumption and awareness for saving. This was also supported by the convenience offered by Bank OCBC NISP which allows online account opening through ONe Mobile. Furthermore, to encourage this habit, Bank OCBC NISP launched the #SAVE20 by Nyala movement, inviting young Indonesians to start new habits in the next normal era by consistently saving and investing on daily basis with affordable amount starting from Rp20,000.

At the end of June 2020, Bank OCBC NISP disbursed Rp117.6 Trillion of loans. The intermediation function was carried out in accordance to prudent principle. Amidst the national economic contraction, Bank OCBC

NISP maintained its NPL (Non-Performing Loan) net ratio at 0.9% and gross ratio at 1.8%. The slowdown in the Indonesian economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic has affected credit demand.

"The decline in credit demand is in line with the slowdown in loans disbursement of banking industry, including Bank OCBC NISP. Nevertheless, Bank OCBC NISP remains with its commitment to carry out intermediation function by consistently implementing prudent principle and maintaining adequate liquidity, with LDR at 86.6% and LFR at 84.1%. This robust financial performance has been the driving force for Bank OCBC NISP to deal and #MoveForward amidst COVID-19 pandemic. The Bank’s financial health was well- managed in 2nd quarter of 2020, reflected in the capital adequacy ratio at 20.7% and Liquidity Coverage Ratio at 170.1%" Parwati concluded.
