Bandung, 07 February 2023 – Reaffirming its commitment in strengthening national food sustainability through aquaculture sector, Bank OCBC NISP extends IDR 250 billion bilateral loan to PT Multidaya Teknologi Nusantara (eFishery). eFishery will use the loan proceeds to fund higher working capital requirement arising from growth of their domestic sales and export sales. This collaboration is the continuation after both companies, that were founded in Bandung, announced the start of their partnership last year by providing fund support to eFishery farmers through KTA Cashbiz Program, which is accessible through eFishery Kabayan program.
According to the Global Food Security Index (GFSI), Indonesia’s national food security score has increased from 59.2 in 2021 to 60.2 in 2022. Aquaculture sector has contributed to the figures, as Indonesia is the second largest aquaculture producing country in the world with production’s volume of 14.8 million tons. Furthermore, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) also predicted that Indonesia’s aquaculture will grow by 26% in 2023.
In supporting the national food sustainability, ‘New Economy’ has become a significant supporting factor. It is an economic concept that describes aspects or sectors of the economy that produce or use innovative technology intensively. Applying this concept, eFishery focuses on the aquaculture sector, that is in line with Bank OCBC NISP’s commitment to also support the 'New Economy'.
Emilya Tjahjadi, Director of Bank OCBC NISP stated, “This financing collaboration aims to support eFishery’s sustainable innovation. We hope Bank OCBC NISP and eFishery can continue to work together to strengthen the future of national food sustainability through the implementation of an integrated and sustainable Aquaculture Ecosystem.”
The support for national food sustainability with a focus on fish and shrimp cultivation has a vital role in the ongoing ecosystem. Therefore, eFishery is building an ecosystem where fish and shrimp farmers can easily increase their productivity, while creating a more sustainable, safe, and fair environment for them.
Gibran Chuzaefah, CEO and Co-Founder of eFishery revealed, "We at eFishery believe that fish and shrimp cultivation is the solution to increase fisheries production as a food and animal proteins source, which is not only rich in nutrients but can also easily accessed by anyone. With the fund support from Bank OCBC NISP, we are more optimistic in building aquaculture ecosystem and contributing to the national food sustainability. As the result, we hope that it will bring a positive contribution for the fish and shrimp farmers.”
Aside from helping aquaculture farmers to keep growing, eFishery also promotes "A Greener Planet" by reducing carbon emissions through cultivating freshwater fish food. This is in line with Bank OCBC NISP’s commitment in creating sustainable values for stakeholders, based on Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG).
