As part of OCBC’s commitment to creating sustainable social impact, OCBC continues its community empowerment initiative through OCBC Society 2025 Phase Two, focusing on enhancing human capacity through health education and financial literacy programs for village communities and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
This phase follows the social mapping conducted in the early stage, which identified several key challenges faced by the community. From a health perspective, awareness of hygiene and sanitation remains limited, as reflected in the continued presence of diseases such as diarrhea and tuberculosis (TB). In addition, financial behavior also remains a challenge, with basic needs such as health protection not yet fully prioritized by some community members.
To address these challenges, OCBC Society 2025 Phase Two introduces three key training programs: Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) education for children, PHBS for households, and basic financial literacy training for community members and MSMEs. These programs are designed to encourage sustainable behavioral change and build long-term awareness in both health and financial management.
In addition to targeting the general community, the basic financial literacy training places particular emphasis on MSMEs. Field findings indicate that many MSMEs face challenges in scaling their businesses due to limited understanding of financial management, simple bookkeeping, business legality, product packaging, and promotion strategies. Through this program, participants are introduced to fundamental financial management practices, the importance of product sanitation, and the use of social media as an initial promotional tool.
The program is supported by OCBC Volunteers and is implemented in collaboration with the local community health center (puskesmas). This collaboration ensures that the training materials are relevant, practical, and aligned with the community’s needs.
Through OCBC Society 2025 Phase Two, OCBC aims to foster healthier lifestyles and more responsible financial behavior, while strengthening the foundation of economic independence at the village level. This initiative will continue into Phase Three, which will focus on MSME development, reaffirming OCBC’s commitment to supporting communities on their journey toward a more inclusive and sustainable future.
