OCBC Sharia Business Unit Marks Its 16th Anniversary, Reinforcing Commitment to Driving Sharia Economic Growth in Bandung

15 Oct 2025

Bandung, 15 October 2025 – Celebrating its 16th anniversary, the Sharia Business Unit (UUS) of PT Bank OCBC NISP Tbk (OCBC) reaffirms its commitment to advancing Indonesia’s sharia economic growth, particularly in Bandung. This commitment is realized through the SHINE: Sharia Insight & Economic Forum 2025, held in Bandung as a tangible step to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders, exchange insights, and discuss strategies for navigating the rapid development of the sharia economy nationwide.

According to the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE), Indonesia currently ranks among the world’s top three countries with the most developed sharia economic ecosystems. Furthermore, data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) as of June 2025 shows that the total national sharia financial assets reached IDR 2,972.94 trillion, an 8.21% year-on-year growth, capturing an 11.47% market share of the overall financial industry. West Java, including Bandung, plays a key role in this growth by significantly contributing to the improvement of sharia financial literacy and inclusion.

The choice of Bandung as the host city for SHINE 2025 is no coincidence. Apart from its historical ties with OCBC, Bandung is recognized as one of the major centers for sharia economic growth, with a dynamic ecosystem across halal lifestyle sectors such as culinary, fashion, and Islamic tourism. Through this forum, OCBC’s Sharia Business Unit aims to foster collaboration and exchange ideas to encourage communities and business players to take a more active role in the ever-growing sharia economy ecosystem.

“For us, Bandung is not just the historical birthplace of OCBC, it is also a city full of potential for sharia economic growth. It is driven by a creative and collaborative spirit, especially among its youth and entrepreneurs who are open to innovation. We believe this potential makes Bandung a key city for OCBC to strengthen its steps in building an inclusive and sustainable sharia economy,” said Mahendra Koesumawardhana, Head of OCBC’s Sharia Business Unit.

The SHINE 2025 event in Bandung also featured prominent figures in the field of sharia economics and finance, including Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia (2020–2024), and Putu Rahwidhiyasa, Director of Sharia Business and Entrepreneurship at the National Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KNEKS). Both shared strategic insights on the trends, opportunities, and direction of Indonesia’s sharia economic development, emphasizing the importance of active participation from businesses and communities in strengthening this sector.

Premier Banking with Sharia Solutions
In conjunction with this milestone, OCBC’s Sharia Business Unit also introduced its latest innovation; Premier Banking with Sharia Solutions to customers in Bandung. This service integrates wealth management, lifestyle, and spirituality into a holistic ecosystem based on sharia principles. Following its grand launch in Jakarta in June 2025, OCBC now brings this offering closer to its Bandung clientele as part of its ongoing commitment to delivering relevant and accessible sharia financial solutions.

The service is designed to help customers manage and optimize their wealth in accordance with sharia principles, while also channeling goodness through sustainable waqf programs on behalf of clients. In collaboration with trusted partners in waqf management and distribution, the funds will be utilized to create real and lasting social impact.

“We believe financial efforts can go hand in hand with spiritual and social contributions. Through Premier Banking with Sharia Solutions, we aim for our customers to grow financially while also taking part in sustainable good deeds,” added Mahendra.

As of the first half of 2025, OCBC’s Sharia Business Unit recorded a 25% year-on-year asset growth to IDR 12.0 trillion, with net profit reaching IDR 22 billion. The introduction of Premier Banking with Sharia Solutions in Bandung is expected to further strengthen performance and expand access to sharia financial services in the region.

Through its three core pillars — Sharia Integrated Financial Privileges, Sharia Lifestyle Privileges, and Sharia Spiritual Privileges, OCBC provides comprehensive financial guidance to its customers, from sharia-based investment and protection management to halal lifestyle experiences and convenient access to zakat, waqf, and special hajj services.

Embracing the spirit of “Ikhtiar are Borderless for Now and Hereafter,” OCBC’s Sharia Business Unit affirms its role as both a financial and spiritual partner — not only for the present, but for a blessed future. Through SHINE 2025 and the introduction of its sharia innovations in Bandung, OCBC strengthens its commitment to advancing an inclusive, competitive, and impactful sharia economy in Indonesia.
